Resilient Cloud Migration & Zero-Trust Cybersecurity Hardening
Client: Financial consulting and private investment firm in Baabda & Beirut
Migrated vulnerable on-premise physical servers to a hardened AWS architecture with zero downtime, implementing Zero-Trust network access, MFA, and automated geographic disaster recovery.
The Operational Challenge
The client operated critical financial analysis software on an aging in-house server in their Baabda office. Recurring electrical power cuts and overheating caused sudden server shutdowns during trading hours. Furthermore, a third-party security scan revealed outdated operating systems, unencrypted client file shares, and exposed remote desktop ports vulnerable to ransomware attacks.
The Quantology Tech Solution
Quantology Tech executed an end-to-end cloud migration and security modernization. We migrated all workloads and databases to AWS using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), architecting a private VPC with multi-AZ redundancy. We implemented a Zero-Trust security model with Cloudflare Access, WireGuard VPNs, and mandatory hardware-token Multi-Factor Authentication. Continuous automated offsite encrypted backups were established with a verified Recovery Time Objective (RTO) under 15 minutes.
System Architecture & Technical Design
Multi-Availability Zone (AZ) AWS architecture provisioned entirely through declarative Terraform Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC). Workloads execute on auto-scaling Ubuntu EC2 instances isolated within private subnets, fronted by an Application Load Balancer and AWS RDS PostgreSQL with automated standby replication. Inbound perimeter security is governed by Cloudflare Zero Trust (Access & WAF) eliminating public management ports.
Engineering Implementation & Rollout
Completed across 4 weeks with zero unscheduled business disruption: Week 1 performed threat modeling and comprehensive vulnerability audits; Week 2 provisioned the AWS VPC, subnets, and IAM policies via Terraform; Week 3 performed off-hours database replication and data validation; Week 4 executed DNS migration and conducted hands-on staff onboarding for FIDO2 MFA hardware keys.
Performance Benchmarks & Security Hardening
Operational Performance: Achieved 99.99% system availability over 12 consecutive months. Cold-start disaster recovery simulation confirmed complete database failover and application restoration in 11 minutes (well within the 15-minute RTO commitment).
Security & Data Governance: Zero public IPv4 addresses assigned to internal databases or administrative instances. Enforced mandatory hardware-token FIDO2 MFA across all employees. Bitdefender Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) provides real-time anti-ransomware protection and credential defense.
Field Engineering Lessons Learned
Local electrical power cuts in Baabda previously interrupted on-premise backup scripts during evening hours. Moving backup orchestration entirely to AWS automated snapshots completely immunized business continuity from municipal grid instability.
Measurable Outcomes
- Achieved 99.99% system availability, completely immunizing the firm from local Lebanese electrical and ISP blackouts.
- Optimized cloud instance sizing and storage tiers to cut projected monthly hosting costs by 38%.
- Remediated 100% of discovered critical and high-severity security vulnerabilities.
- Enabled the firm's advisors to securely access client files and financial models from any location worldwide without VPN connection lag.
“Quantology Tech eliminated our single biggest operational worry. In a country where power cuts and internet drops can paralyze business, our core systems haven't skipped a single beat since the migration.”
